MUSICAL APPROACH

Alex currently performs in a range of projects including the Alex Merritt & Rebecca Nash Duo , the Alex Merritt Quartet and the Alex Merritt/ Steve Fishwick Quintet. Alex writes music for these different settings for the unique musical personalities in these bands. For more about this see Projects. Many of these projects are actively performing widely, so keep an eye on Live to see where they are playing next.

Alex’s music integrates influence from contemporary classical music as well as contemporary jazz. Composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Henri Dutilleux and Maurice Ravel have been influences for Alex alongside jazz influence from figures such as John Coltrane, Joe Henderson and Warne Marsh.
