COMPOSITION.
Alex’s passion for composition, as well as improvisation has led him to become equally involved in performing work, with his range of current projects, as well as furthering his development as a composer. Alex enjoys taking inspiration from lots of contemporary classical composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Tora Takemitsu, Alexander Scriabin and others. Many of his small group jazz compositions are featured on ‘Anatta’ and ‘Mind-Ear-Ladder’.
Alex is also currently very much enjoying the tonal and textural gifts of a larger ensemble for expressing his language, Alex is seeking more opportunities to work within these formats in future.
As such, he is open to commissions for composition for jazz, chamber or mixed ensembles. Some of Alex’s larger ensemble writing where we writes for jazz sextet and nonet are featured on ‘Common Threads’, the debut album of the Fresh Sound Ensemble, which was released in Dec 2022, and launched at the celebrated Jamboree Club in Barcelona in May 2023.
